Of course, everyone is familiar at this point with his FoxNews election night interview in which Nader wondered if Obama would be an Uncle Sam or Uncle Tom. If you actually listen to him, he actually backs up his seemingly outrageous metaphor, as he speaks to the always swarmy Sheperd Smith putting on his best outraged into near speechlessness act. The two of them together = priceless, bizarro television. If you missed it, here it is:
Now, I’m probably late to the party here, but until today I had missed his hilarious, yet painful-to-watch interview with Triumph the Insult Comic Dog. I cannot for the life of me think what part of Nader’s masterplan these embarrassing media moments are a part of, other than its a big fuck-it-Andy-Kaufman-style goof. I’m not a big fan of Nader, but know some folks who were back in ’00, I’m wondering what they think of this.
Triumph does refer to Nader’s previous 70’s/80’s incarnation as a consumer advocate which most people would not deny was a worthwhile gig, and really should have been his legacy. Unfortunately, I can’t help thinking that his new legacy is to be poster boy in the theatre of the absurd. Why would he do this? What other reason could there possibly be?
Anyway watch it here if you can bear it.
Here’s Bruce Springsteen joining REM on that song of theirs about Andy Kaufman which, in my mind, seems to be equally appropriate for Nader.
